Notes from the Assistant Pastor - April 9th, 2008

Jesus’ change of imagery from shepherd to door in John 10:1-10 can be a little confusing, but maybe it’s not as confusing as it sounds at first.  Sir George Adam Smith once reported a conversation with an Arab shepherd who was showing him the sheepfold.  Its four walls had one single opening.  The sheep would either pass through it or be left out.  But when the sheperd was asked where the door was for closing off the entrance, he replied: “I am the door.”  At nighttime, with the sheep safely in the fold, the shepherd would fill the entrance with himself.  No sheep could run away, and no predator or thief could get at the flock without going through the shepherd first.

Both Pastors Rockey and Allen are out the area at this time.  Pastor Allen will return on April 17th and then will be headed for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League’s “Joy Shop” which will be held at Mt. Drum Lutheran Church, Copper Center, AK.  He will be back late Saturday evening.  In case of an emergency please call the Church Office and your needs will be directed to an Elder or one of our Lutheran pastors in the area.

We invite you to join us this Sunday in Bible class as we look at “Super Sheep” a Ken Davis DVD.  Why does the Bible compare us to sheep?  Randy Luffberry will lead this program.
