Notes from the Assistant to the Pastor - April 2nd, 2008

The Easter refrain; “He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!” continues to reverberate in our lives. What have we done to get that wonderful message out to those around us? Luiqi Tarisio was found dead one morning with hardly any creature comforts in his home except the 246 exquisite violins he had collected during his lifetime. Most of them were stored in the attic. But the best of them was in the bottom drawer of an old rickety bureau. In his devotion to violins he had robbed the world of the great music that they could have produced. When his greatest violin, a Stradivarius, was played it had been silent for 147 years. Many Christians are like old Tarisio. In their love for the church and preserving its history and traditions, they bury the Good News of the Easter story in the bottom of a rickety old bureau. Let the people of our day hear the great music “He is risen!”

The Elders have given Pastor Rockey the month of April off in order to write his dissertation for his doctorate. He will away from the office and possibly out of town during this time. He plans on worshiping with us on Sundays. Pastor Allen and Eleanor will be Outside from late April 6th through April 17th. If an emergency arises we ask that you contact the Church Office and your needs will be directed to either Pastor Allen, the Elders, or to a Lutheran pastor who will be available for emergencies.

Pastor Allen will be sharing four DVD’s during the 9:30 a.m. Bible Study period on the Sundays in April. On April 6th - “A Wimpy Prophet - A Butane Bush and No Excuses” We look at Moses and the five excuses he gave God when he was called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt; April 13th - “Super Sheep” Have you ever wondered why the Bible compares us to sheep? Randy Luffberry will lead this one); April 20th - “Second Chances - Lessons from Jonah” Jonah learned a few things during his Nineveh adventure - and the most important lesson had nothing to do with the digestive habits of large fish; and on April 27th -

“It’s Enough to Make a Grown Man Cry” - Ken takes a look at the shortest verse in the Bible to give us a remarkable perspective on why Jesus wept. We invite all to join us for these wonderfully entertaining messages filled with hope and encouragement for believers of all ages
